Earthquake!

I just created this blog as the quickest way I know to let people know that we are OK. Tonight there was a series at least 5 earthquakes all over 5.0 and with the strongest measured at 7.9. All of them were clustered around Ica which is about 6 hours south of here.

We felt the tremors and some people went out into the streets but there was no damage here. News reports are coming in from Ica and the latest report gives 48 dead and hundreds injured. We thank God for his proteccion but pray for the emergency to the south.

There was a tsunami warning but it did not result in a tsunami. There is a unique, natural protection for Puerto Supe. Our port faces NW with high hills on a penninsula to the west and south. The penninsula and hills form a natural barrier to tsunamis from most directions in the Pacific.

We've contacted the relatives in Lima. They were terrified, but are all OK. Most of the damage seems to be further south. You can check out the exact position, depth, intensity and time at http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.php

Thank you for your concern and prayers.
Grace

Grace! Glad to hear you all are ok. My brother called me at 11:30 last night (got me out of bed) to tell me about the earthquake. I looked it up, and was somewhat relieved to see it was a good bit south of you all. Thanks for letting us know!

Love and Prayers

Hi Grace and Cesar,
I hadn't heard about it but praise God you're ok.

This blog is cool but poses some difficulties if you don't know spanish. I had to do some figuring on how to reply to you.

Love, Douglas and Daina
